5 months

Araminta is now 5 months old. We had her weighed at the breast-feeding clinic on Thursday and she now weighs 6.3 kilos. She’s getting heavy to carry around, but she’s still not as heavy as the cat! However, Araminta is quite a long baby. She started to pay attention to books this week, which is exciting as both of us love to read.

As you can see, playing with her toys is quite a serious business.

I’ve finally managed to snap a shot of her with her fingers in her mouth.

This is how we usually see her. The white toy was a gift from her Great Uncle and Aunt on Jeff’s side.

Crawling is not far away. We can’t put her down and walk away any more. This is where the baby girl ended up this afternoon.

Araminta has found her feet.

Unfortunately she’s taken to putting them in her mouth as well.

Although she’s not eating solids yet, tonight Araminta enjoyed sitting at the big table with Mummy and Daddy.

She’s almost out-grown her cloth nappies, so we need to find time to get to Cape Town to buy some bigger ones.

19 Week update

Araminta is now starting to actively play with her toys. Unfortunately every time I try to get a picture of this she stops and poses for the camera.

We’ve had quite cold weather so we were able to dress her in this little top that Jeff chose for her.

It says ‘How cute am I?’ Yes, I’ve become one of those parents.

Unfortunately Araminta has been spitting up a lot lately and so that top lasted about half an hour (and yes, I had a bib on her after taking the picture), so I got to dress her for the first time in this little cardigan that I knitted for her.

Finally, photo evidence of why we need to get some cot bumpers.

We’ve started reading to Araminta this week and she is able to concentrate on short books, so that’s been lots of fun. She’s quite a happy little girl and we are enjoying her immensely.

18 Week update

This week Araminta has really started to giggle. She’s also quite mobile now, she can roll over both ways, and also inches her way forward and back. She’s starting to get frustrated that she can’t get to where she wants to go, and seeing her backside lifting off the floor we think that crawling isn’t too far away – she just needs to work out how to use the arms, and get a little more balance. Mummy’s days of peace are numbered!

She’s been spending her time between Jeff’s office and my classroom while I’ve been doing my one hour a day teaching, so far so…reasonable.

Araminta is also able to sit up strongly, if she’s got something to lean on.

Getting a picture without her fingers in her mouth is becoming increasingly difficult, but occasionally I get lucky.

She thinks it’s hilarious when I take her fingers out of her mouth and so if I’m quick I can usually capture the smile.

17 Week update

Araminta was 17 weeks old yesterday. Here’s her weekly picture:

Ready for sleep in her cot.

New activities this week are: holding on to her feet and also working out that if she rolls over more than once she can get places. I give you exhibit A.

I was chatting on the computer to Kerin when I looked down and saw this cheeky face grinning up at me.

Off the mat and across the floor. Guess we are going to have to baby-proof the house now.

I did some sewing yesterday and today and made these cute little bibs for Araminta.

I just need to get some velcro to keep them closed. I think I’ll be making a few more of these as gifts for pregnant friends.

Well it’s late and I’m tired so I’m off to bed.
