First Braai

30 10 2007

Araminta went to her first braai on Friday. We were celebrating a friend’s birthday by roasting a lamb on a spit.

Here she is enjoying the atmosphere with Mummy.

and with Daddy

She was remarkably well behaved.

One of Mummy’s friends took this picture of her

On Saturday afternoon Araminta went on a picnic with the students from the Language School where Mummy used to work and with the visiting tour group from Khazakhstan.

There are no pictures because she slept the whole time.

Here is a little hat that Mummy made.

In other news, Araminta has now regained her birth weight. It only took her a little over 3 weeks to do. Don’t worry though, she’s not going hungry. She feeds well and often.

Last night was good, she went down at about 10.30 – 11 and then woke at 2.30 and then at 5.30. Mummy is not a morning person, luckily I’m able to go back to sleep once it’s light. Araminta is quite good at night, she usually has a feed and then goes straight back to sleep, which is a blessing. Mind you there have been nights when this hasn’t been the case, and it’s usually close to midnight before she actually goes to sleep.

Araminta got two parcels today – somebody is a spoilt girl. She was sent a gorgeous teddy bear from her Great-Aunty Linda (Ruth’s mum’s sister) and some cute clothes, and one of Ruth’s internet friends sent her some Gorgeous handknitted booties, a handmade bib with turtles in batik on it and a very cute sock-monkey zebra. Picture to follow in the next post.

18 days old

Araminta has been a bit of a grumpus the last few days. She’s still feeding well – loves her food, but has the remarkable ability to scream (loudly) for hours. We don’t know how her lungs or her throat stand it!

That being said, I’m pretty sure we had our first smile today, and it was given to Daddy while she was in the bath. Jeff says it was wind, but I’m convinced – she looked right at him and smiled. Brought tears to my eyes.

In keeping with Araminta being grumpy mcwhingy pants here she is in an outfit given to us by a friend “I’m a little monster”

This weekend we had problems keeping her cool, but today is cold so she is all rugged up.

She’s got very good head and neck control and an eye for the camera. I tried to get a photo of her screaming, but every time I pointed the camera at her she stopped and looked angelic…

Her weight at the breast-feeding clinic on Thursday was 3.64kgs so she still hasn’t regained her birthweight, but we aren’t worried since she is gaining more weight each week.

Somebody is spending more time awake

16 10 2007

These were taken yesterday at 11 days old. Araminta is quite alert after a feed and is holding her head up really well.

I think this is the cutest of the lot.

Falling over just a little.

Mummy made the hat and jumper.

Sleeping like an angel

15 10 2007

Araminta is starting to feed with her eyes open and is spending a short time after each feed awake now. She has beautiful big grey eyes. Here she is asleep just after her feed yesterday.

She sucks her hands a lot.

It seems like her hair is starting to get fairer already too.

Hi all,

Thought you might like to see some more photos of our beautiful child. Not that we are at all biased.

This is my favourite picture I’ve ever taken – Jeff and Araminta together

This was a cranky day when she would not be put down for any length of time. We are slowly getting the bookshelves unpacked – ok, to be truthful Jeff is getting the bookshelves unpacked because I can’t lift anything.

At home in her new pram, the yellow blanket was knitted for her by a friend here in South Africa, and a friend in the USA dyed the yarn for her hat and I knitted it up.

Jeff bought Araminta a baby moses basket so that we could keep an eye on her when we are in the living room – we have a cold house and only heat one area at a time.

Fast asleep. We are lucky that she sleeps very well- usually – between feeds.

Last picture for the day, on Wednesday a friend came over with her 5-month-old son. He was fascinated by Araminta.

Araminta is 6 days old in this picture. The quilt was a gift from a friend in the USA. All of the blocks are different and if you follow the pink lines you can tell a story from them.

Araminta had her first trip to the beach on Thursday. We visited Gordon’s Bay which has a nice grassed area and a paved path you can walk along. Mummy and Daddy had fish and chips by the water. We didn’t take any photos of that because she slept the whole time in her pram.

Happy Second (day) Birthday!
