12 Weeks

30 12 2007

Araminta turned 12 weeks old on Thursday. We took some pictures to mark the occasion.

We have this bouncer on loan and Araminta really likes it, especially when it plays music for her.

Araminta has discovered her voice and now chirps and squeals and talks to us a lot which is very sweet. She is also sleeping well, both during the day and at night, so we feel very blessed.

Here she is with Mummy, exactly 12 weeks old.

On Saturday we went to the Helderberg Nature Reserve so that Jeff could go bird hunting. Araminta and I relaxed in a shady spot. (We won’t talk about the fact that she spat up on me twice).

She managed to draw quite a crowd of children who were fascinated by her, they were also fascinated by the quilt she was on. Bibs have become an almost constant feature of the wardrobe as she is drooling constantly. We think the teeth can’t be too far away.

She also got to sit on a chair like a big person. She thought that was lots of fun, she really did, even though I couldn’t manage to get one of her smiling.

Ruth’s mum is arriving in a little over two weeks and we are looking forward to introducing Araminta to her Grandma

Two Milestones

27 12 2007

Araminta had a lovely first Christmas. She received some beautiful presents from Nana and Poppa (Jeff’s Mum and Step-father) and some from Mummy and Daddy too. Here she is with her little stack of gifts (we tried not to go too overboard since she has everything that she needs and she’s so little, but there are more parcels on the way from Australia still to arrive).

Here she is with the packages opened. She really likes the merry-go-round from Nana and Poppa, and spent quite some time yesterday staring at it.

The owl mobile is from Jeff and I, and is made locally in Cape Town.

Araminta’s Christmas present to us (at 11 weeks and 5 days) was to roll over. She flipped from her stomach to her back twice. She can’t go from her back to her stomach yet. It was very exciting, but also a little sad, our baby girl is growing up.

We missed all our Aussie relatives terribly. I’d have loved for Araminta to have spent her first Christmas with her cousins in Brisbane…

Leaving you with one last Christmas picture…

11 Weeks

23 12 2007

Araminta is now 11 weeks old and is starting to enjoy tummy time a little more.

Though she’s still not real keen. This is the first time she’s been reasonably happy to lie on her stomach.

Friday and Saturday were VERY hot – hence the mattress in the living room, and only a nappy on the child.

Araminta has spent a lot of time this week with her hands in her mouth, and she has started to grab at clothing and put that in her mouth too, particularly her bibs. She has also started to blow bubbles and drool continuously – I’ve never seen anything like it.

We are looking forward to her first Christmas, now I just need to finish sewing her stocking and put the finishing touches on a cardigan that I’ve knitted for her.

A Christmas visit

19 12 2007

On Monday a group of us got together and dressed one of the daddies as Father Christmas for a mini-photo shoot with the kids. Araminta’s pictures came out really well. Claudelle is a professional photographer, so the photos were properly lit with all the right equipment. These pictures are from my little camera, we will be getting the ones she took as well. Kerin, these would make a great scrapbook page 🙂

This next one is fabulous, if I do say so myself.

See that cheeky grin?

Then we took some Anne Geddes-type shots:

That last photo is my favourite. Unfortunately, we didn’t do this in time for the Christmas cards. Maybe next year.

10 Weeks

17 12 2007

Araminta was 10 weeks old on Thursday. Here’s the picture.

We were out walking in the pram and she was so happy that I had to stop and take a photo.

She has started to take an interest in her pram toys too and is able to amuse herself for short stretches of time now.

These following photos are from today.

Araminta is still sleeping for 6 hours a night which is lovely, and she goes back down easily after a feed.

I’ve been singing nursery rhymes to her this week, two favourites are The Grand Old Duke of York and If you’re happy and you know it.

I’ve been taking her to choir rehearsals with me and she loves the singing and is very well behaved. Unfortunately, she was not so well behaved on Saturday night at the Christmas concert when Nanna was looking after her while mummy sang… Let’s just say that Araminta has inherited her mother’s lungs and leave it at that.

Araminta’s first Christmas is rapidly approaching and we still haven’t figured out what to get her for Christmas – it’s the first one so we want it to be special, but really she has everything she needs…we’ll have to keep pondering.

Araminta’s week

10 12 2007

Thought you might like to see some of the gazillion pictures we took this week.

Gorgeous Girl started to ‘chat’ a lot more this week and bat with her hands at her toys. Here she is chatting with her zebra

She really loves the black, white and red combination. She also loves the pram toy that ‘Aunty’ Chris sent from Brisbane, but I don’t have a picture of her playing with that yet. The zebra was a gift from a blogging friend in the USA, the bib was a gift from a local friend who is expecting a baby in March so I’ve knitted them a hat, but still need to do some booties and I’ll probably sew a bib or two if I get time, and the outfit was a gift from friends in Brisbane.

She has quite a michievious smile, as evidenced here. The I love this dress (it was a gift too, and is perfect for the hot weather we have been having) and the bib was also a present, both came from Australia. I haven’t seen any bibs this nice here.

All nice and clean. Her hair is quite curly when it is wet, but only slightly wavy when dry. I don’t know why Araminta’s hair shows up with a reddish tinge in this photo, it’s quite brown in real-life, though it is getting a little lighter as it gets longer. People always comment on her eyes when we take her out – especially those long eyelashes of which I am rather envious.

This picture is especially for Grandma in Western Australia (Ruth’s Mum).

Araminta’s wearing the top Mum sent, but not the bottoms as it was just too hot. Pink really suits her, as does red. She’s able to sit like this for a little while before toppling over.

I’ve nearly finished knitting a cardigan for her (in size one so she’ll have to grow into it). Pictures when it’s done.

Finally I have to show you this beautiful keepsake tin that came for her from one of Mummy’s blogging friends in the Netherlands.

Isn’t it just stunning!

9 Weeks

7 12 2007

Araminta was 9 weeks old yesterday, so we had her weekly photo. I’m going to try and take a photo every week to chart her growth and development.

The little outfit comes from the Cape Town Waterfront and is hand-painted.

She’s now sleeping for 6 hours at a stretch at night, on a regular basis, so that’s a relief, but we are still pretty tired.

She received two lovely gifts yesterday, one from one of Mummy’s blogging friends in the Netherlands, a beautiful little embroidered tin with her name on it. She’ll be able to use it for keepsakes when she is older. The other gift was from friends of ours in Brisbane, some onsies and some very cute bibs. They also included some Buderim Crystallised Ginger for Mummy and Daddy which was very welcome!
