8 Months and one week

29 05 2008

This is Araminta’s weekly photo – I didn’t technically take it on 8 months one week exactly, but I like it so much I want to include it.

This girl looks after her for me in the afternoon while I’m working. Araminta was a little bit fussy, so she put her onto her back and she was as happy as could be.

I thought you might like to see a picture of Araminta in the top that I embellished.

I’m very pleased with how it’s turned out.

I got Araminta weighed on Tuesday at the pharmacy – she’s now 7.19 kgs. She’s still lighter than the cat 🙂

8 Months old – weekly photo

26 05 2008

Araminta is becoming quite adept at standing up on her own now, I guess it won’t be long before she is walking. She’s growing up far to fast for my liking.

Here are her weekly photos for 8 months. I took her outside with me to get the clothes off the line. Since the ground was wet I put her in the washing basket. She thought this was great fun, so when we got inside I took a few pictures.

I decorated a shirt for her on Sunday. The fabric came from one of my online friends from Finland.

I’m really pleased with how it turned out, and I have plans for the left over cats – now I just need to find the time to put those plans into action.

A busy day

20 05 2008

The girl who looks after Araminta while Ruth is working couldn’t come today. So Araminta had to amuse herself. Here’s a few highlights of what she got up to:

Playing in Mummy and Daddy’s recipes

Eating the fabric left over from one of Mummy’s sewing projects.

Playing nicely with her toys.

Yesterday she had her first drink from a cup. Here she is trying juice for the first time with Jeff.

Believe it or not she actually managed the cup quite well and got the hang of the sipping motion after a while.

She was very proud of herself.

Araminta has taken to our helper very well and is happy to spend time playing with her while Ruth works in the afternoons. Since I’m working at home I’m never really very far away, but it’s nice to be able to be on the computer without having to worry that Araminta is eating the cat food! The added bonus is that our helper does housework while Araminta is sleeping. 🙂

I’ll post a picture of the two of them together in the next post.

7 Months, three weeks – weekly photo and a few more

13 05 2008

Araminta is now quite happily eating solids. She gets most excited when we put her in her high chair, and is getting very good at eating off the spoon.

Here’s her weekly photo:

One of Ruth’s friends sent her a new teething toy, which instantly became a bit hit.

As you can see from the way she’s bundled up, it’s been quite cold here.

Araminta’s latest thing is trying to stand up on her own. She’s come close a few times – Kerin, I’m working on getting a shot of it, but it’s proving harder than expected. She can stand on her own if she’s got something to hold onto.

She’s very pleased with herself when she does this.

Seven Months Two weeks and her first camping trip

7 05 2008

Last week had three public holdiays in it so Jeff and I decided to take Araminta on her first camping trip. We went to the Karoo National Park – which is about a 5 hour drive from where we are currently living. Araminta took the trip really well. We only had to stop twice and she played happily with her toys for most of the trip.

Here she is enjoying some quiet time in the morning with her daddy.

She was very good at night and didn’t cry, so the neighbours didn’t hate us too much. 🙂

While it was quite cold at night and in the early mornings the days were lovely and Araminta enjoyed exploring.

The big milestone for the trip was that she learned how to do this

by herself. She thinks she’s pretty clever now that she can sit up on her own.

Another first was that Araminta got to ride in the hiking backpack we were given. She wasn’t too sure at first, but after a while she was so relaxed she had a little sleep.

She’s not sleeping here, just looking into the sun.

Aramintia’s ‘official’ seven month and two week weekly photo is a shot of her waiting patiently in the car while we packed up the campsite.

Finally, the introduction to solids is going well. She’s less reluctant than she was. Guess what food has been the biggest hit?

prunes…
